The moniker “As Panteras 171” (The 171 Panthers) has emerged from the alleys of the Rio de Janeiro underground to become a symbol of a new, more dangerous breed of criminal. Named after Article 171 of the Brazilian Penal Code (criminal fraud/swindling), this all-female or female-led network has abandoned the traditional favela turf wars for the high-yield, low-physical-risk arenas of digital fraud, real estate laundering, and emotional manipulation.
