Filmyzilla Jagga Jasoos [2021] -
The film follows Jagga (Ranbir Kapoor), a quirky, gifted teenager with a stutter who can only speak fluently when he sings. Adopted by a Bagchi (Saswata Chatterjee), a man who mysteriously abandons him, Jagga grows up to be a teenage detective. Joined by a clumsy journalist, Shruti Sengupta (Katrina Kaif), he embarks on a global hunt for his father, uncovering an arms-smuggling conspiracy (involving the very real and tragic Purulia arms drop incident). Basu’s decision to tell this spy-thriller almost entirely through song is reminiscent of old Hollywood musicals or French operettas. It is a bold experimental leap.
