Preliminary studies suggest that MIDV-488 is a single-stranded RNA virus, belonging to a previously unknown genus. Its genetic material is approximately 10,000 nucleotides in length, encoding for a range of proteins that are not yet fully characterized. Notably, the virus exhibits a high degree of genetic diversity, with multiple strains identified in infected individuals.
