The area now known as Tram Pararam was originally a rural region with a few scattered settlements. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the construction of a tramway system in Paramaribo led to the development of this neighborhood. The tramway, which was operated by a Dutch company, connected the city center to the outskirts, including the area now known as Tram Pararam.
